The under representation of women in political leadership is a national l issue because they face systemic barriers, gender bias, and negative criticism in public office. According to World Economic Forum, countries such as Rwanda, enforce a gender quota system that mandates that a minimum of 30% of seats must be held by women in their parliament. Other countries like New Zealand, Canada, and Sweden introduced childcare and parental leave for female politicians. However in countries like Mexico, women are 38% less likely to receive public funding before parity reforms (a legislative change to ensure equal coverage for mental health and substance abuse). These statics demonstrate that around the world there are different legislation and initiatives that have been implemented to uplift women in government, while female representatives in other countries still struggle. By highlighting local disparities through art, this project encourages local audiences to engage with and contribute to the worldwide effort to advance gender equality in political leadership.
