Hello! My name is Syesha Fraser, and I have been a Girl Scout for 4 years. I initially started in the Girl Scouts organization at the began of 6th grade when I lived Queens, New York. My mom put me in Girl Scouts because she wanted me to learn important life skills and have a different space to continue to grow outside of school. I entered as a Junior and then bridged to a Cadette. Shortly after I bridged, I moved to Edison, New Jersey, and no longer wanted to continue in Girl Scouts.

In 2022, I entered high school. At the beginning of 10th grade, I became more involved within various extracurriculars and I contemplated rejoining Girl Scouts. However, I was unsure. Later on in the year, I met Suzette Stephen in Chemistry class and naturally we became friends. By the 11th grade, Suzette mentioned that she was a Girl Scout and that detail convinced me to join again.

I contacted Girl Scout Leader, her mom, Ms. Keisha Stephen. She provided me with the necessary information I needed in order to rejoin the Girl Scouts organization. A few days later, I officially registered as a Girl Scout and within a few weeks I met Ms. Keisha and introduced myself to the troop.

After a few troop meetings, Ms.Keisha began talking about the Gold Award. I strongly considered it, especially because I didn’t have a Bronze or a Silver Award. In order to qualify for the Gold Award, I completed two journeys: “Dream Maker: Live it! Give it!” and “Advocate: Your voice, Your world”. Then, I began brainstorming what I wanted my project to be about.

In June 2026, I bridged to an adult and became a Lifetime member of Girl Scouts. As an adult, I am glad my mom introduced me to Girl Scouts and that I rejoined when I felt ready. I am proud of what I have accomplished in this organization within the past 2 years, including inspiring other older girls to join. I will absolutely miss being a Girl Scout!

As of now, I will be attending The College of New Jersey in the Spring of 2027, where I will be studying Political Science with a pre-law specialization. During that time, I will also be serving in the New Jersey National Guard.
